Twitter has enriched its Promoted Accounts and Promoted Tweets advertising programs with geotargeting. According to MediaPost Publications the new feature is in a beta phase and enables advertisers to target particular countries in the US.
The latter wonders as independent Twitter apps like monitoring services at least are able to go down to city levels, but at the same time it shows the potentials of the microblogging service. In this context some figures about the advertising revenues are of interest. The service, which now has about 200 millions members worldwide, had an advertising revenue of about 45 million US dollars in 2010, which in 2012 will grow up to 250 million.
