ICANN and the Internet become independent

The ICANN, one of the basic internet organization e.g. responsible for the administration of the domain name system, is becoming an independent institution.

Up to now the ICANN has been supervised by US governmental bodies. After an 11 years long and in advance declared process the organization now becomes an independent not for profit institution. This is the outcome of the latest contract between the US government and the ICANN, which opposite to former contracts is not limited in time and lasting. Too, the EU welcomes the decision.
